The Eighth China-LAC Infrastructure Forum kicks off in Macao

The eighth China-LAC Infrastructure Forum was held successfully in Macao from September 28 to 29. Wang Shouwen, China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, and Alexis Guerrera, Argentine Minister of Transport, delivered remarks by video link on behalf of China and LAC respectively. The Latin American and Caribbean ambassadors, representatives from relevant Chinese and LAC governments, financial institutions, chambers of commerce, business communities and think tanks attended the events.

Wang Shouwen said that the China-LAC Infrastructure Forum has been held for three consecutive years since the outbreak of Covid-19, which speaks volume about China and LAC’s sincere hope for and strong confidence in promoting solidarity and South-South cooperation. Infrastructure development serves as an important pillar of economic and social progress and has always been a key field and priority in China-LAC commercial cooperation. The two sides should continue to work together to face the difficulty in solidarity, create opportunities and enhance China-LAC infrastructure connectivity so as to make positive contribution to high-quality economic and social development for China and LAC countries.

Alexis Guerrera spoke highly of the achievements in China-Argentina cooperation on infrastructure. Such cooperation has played an important role in enabling products to be transported more efficiently and people to have a better life, he said. Argentina looks forward to further consolidating and elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

The China-LAC Infrastructure Forum is the first specialized forum for infrastructure cooperation under the China-CELAC Forum. This annual forum is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China, and co-sponsored by China International Contractors Association and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute.
