        Briefings on Japan’s Trade in February, 2019

        According to the statistics from the Japanese customs, in January-February 2019, the import and export volume of Japanese goods reached US$ 227.93 billion, down 4.4% over the same period of the previous year (the same below). Among these, the exports were US$108.98 billion, down 5.0%; the imports were US$118.96 billion, down 3.7%. The trade deficit was US$9.98 billion, up 13.1%.

        In February, the import and export of Japanese goods reached US$112.59 billion, down 6.0%. Among these, the exports were US$57.81 billion, down 3.4%; the imports were US$54.78 billion, down 8.7%. The trade surplus was US$3.03 billion.

        In January-February, the bilateral import and export volume of goods between Japan and China was US$47.50 billion, down 5.2%. Among these, Japan’s exports to China were US$19.11 billion, down 6.6%, accounting for 17.5% of Japan’s total exports, down 0.3 percentage points; Japan’s imports from China were US$28.39 billion, down 4.3%, accounting for 23.9% of Japan’s total imports, down 0.1 percentage points. The trade deficit between Japan and China was US$9.27 billion, up 0.8%.

        By February, China is Japan's second largest export trade partner and the largest import trade partner.
