China highly commends the able leadership by the Director-General Mr. Li Yong, wholed the UNIDO in focusing its work in the four strategic areas of creatingshared prosperity, advancing economic competitiveness, safeguarding theenvironment and strengthening knowledge and institutions, andmade significant achievements in the past year.
China is pleased to see that UNIDO’s technicalcooperation services continue to be optimized. In 2019, the TC delivery reached US$190 million, which was highly acknowledgedby both donor and recipient countries alike and further highlighted theimportant role of the inclusive and sustainable industrial development increating jobs, promoting economic growth, promoting equality, and addressingclimate change.
China attaches great importance to the cooperation with UNIDO. In 2019, China contributed respectively US$3.25 million to the Industrial Development Fund,US$2.25 million to the Partnership trust Fund, and US$500,000 to the Trust Fundfor American and Caribbean. China is willing to share the successful experienceof industrial development through the UNIDO platform and do what it can to helpdeveloping countries including African countries achieve common development.
The year 2019 witnessed the successful conveningof the eighteenth session of the UNIDO General Conference. All parties adheredto the Vienna spirit of consensus, properly resolved sensitive issues such asbudget formulation and adopted important agreements such as the Abu DhabiDeclaration, thus laying a solid foundation for future cooperation. Goingforward, China is willing to continue to work with all parties to firmly upholdmultilateralism, support the long-term and healthy development of UNIDO andjointly promote the realization of the United Nations Sustainable DevelopmentGoals.
