China highly appreciates the fact that under the strong leadership of the Director General, UNIDO had made positive progress in all its work in the past year despite the negative impacts posed by the pandemic.
China is pleased to see that in spite of the adverse impact caused by telecommuting, travel restrictions and lockdowns, UNIDO in 2020 had delivered TC projects in 129 countries with TC implementation reaching 178 million US dollars, which was 95% of the average figure over the past five years and the PCP had been expanded to 11 countries. This business model had been widely recognized for its outstanding strength in effective mobilization of resources, integration and up-scaling. The approval by the Green Climate Fund of UNIDO’s application for an Accredited Entity represents high recognition of UNIDO’s technological expertise in addressing climate change. UNIDO had steadily scaled up the impact of ISID on global development cooperation by actively engaging with the United Nations system, G20 and other important platforms.
The COVID-19 pandemic rampaging around the world now and for some time to come has posed severe challenges to the safety of global public health, brought tremendous impact on the socioeconomic development of all countries and created obstacles against the achievement of the SDGs. The ISID will play an increasingly important role in strengthening the responses to the pandemic, economic recovery and climate change. China would appeal on all countries to continue the solidarity and coordination, preserve multilateralism, make good use of UNIDO as a platform to help the developing countries in intensifying the response to the pandemic and economic recovery, enhancing their capacity for sustainable development and work together for sustainable development around the world.
